HULFT: A Data Integration Platform That Helps Reduce Development and Operational Man Hours by 50 Percent
This client-company is a leading maker of preservative-free skincare products and nutritional supplements for a large domestic market. By integrating research, manufacturing, and sales, the client creates products and supplements within a thorough quality-control environment to meet the home country’s strict Food with Function Claims requirements.
The Situation: Supporting an integrated manufacturing and sales business model
Customer purchases of the client’s products occur not only in-store but also online. Maintaining control of the distribution and delivery network while monitoring sales trends and customer feedback for product development input, sales strategy, and promotional efforts requires robust, reliable, and fast data. Operating 30 different linked data systems while running roughly 500 various interfaces, each defining its own related processes, this client’s data transfer volume regularly exceeded 10 million transfer interactions over the course of any given day.
The Challenge: Establishing a cohesive vision from diverse data
Linking such a large quantity of varied data within a cohesive platform to meet strategic planning goals presented significant obstacles. The client’s over-the- counter retail sales and online/mail-order sales divisions not only used different business workflows, the business units operated on different accounting platforms. Whenever new systems were introduced, data integration had to be re-optimized to meet the business’ needs, requiring significant development and operational expense. Processing data from so many divergent sources led to multiple file transfer protocols. Sorting through a network that included FTP, RCP, as well as other protocols, meant error handling was a cumbersome, time consuming, case-by-case process.
As the leading solution for data transfer management, HULFT Transfer was chosen as the communication hub between the various business systems and the client’s ETL tools needed for data conversion. Operating the transfers through HULFT Transfer streamlined the issue of moving multiple file types while adding new layers of reliability with transfer confirmations not available to FTP and other protocols.
“The centralized management of interfaces has allowed us to reduce the amount of time required to conduct investigations, such as what process is performed where. It is now much easier to develop new interfaces and to modify existing interfaces reduced development man- hours by 50 percent or more when compared to our previous infrastructure.”
Despite HULFT Transfer’s robust capabilities, the client-company was still wrangling ETL tools and various operational interfaces for each of the 30 systems, making it difficult to gain big-picture clarity. Moreover, having so many different interfaces at hand, each with its own capability suite, the client was unable to take full advantage of the available tools. Development and maintenance costs remained high as the number of interfaces increased with each new change to the environment.
The Solution: Consolidating and standardizing onto an integrated platform
Trapped in a convoluted development cycle, the client moved to standardize an integrated data platform and construct an environment that could be easily managed and provide data-driven insights. The client needed tools that were specifically cross-capable with HULFT Transfer, so HULFT Integrate was selected for its ability to perform complex processes. Taking information from the various disparate business system operations, HULFT Transfer now feeds the data from HULFT Integrate for a standardized data conversion platform. The systems now operate seamlessly, providing a complete, reliable, accurate, and transparent overview to management.
Benefits of the standardization appeared immediately. The centralized management of data has reduced the time required for data investigations, making it easy to examine what data was processed and where. New operational interfaces are effortlessly developed and existing interfaces can be improved, even by new employees not thoroughly familiar with past processes. HULFT Integrate’s low-code user interface allows the I/O file management startup process for data conversion programming to be created without the need to first write a new shell script.
